Docent and naturalist Scott Peden leads a leisurely 4-mile hike to see the blooming plants of Rancho del Oso. He says the first .75 miles of the hike—which starts at the gate by Highway 1—“always has lots of flowers in bloom you wouldn’t expect to see elsewhere.”
Spend a late fall morning hiking in the company of flowering plants such as coffeeberry, lizard tail, western morning glory, nightshade, and yellow bush lupine; the list goes on and on. Photographers are more than welcome to bring along their camera to snap shots of the flora. Bring a lunch and water, along with comfortable hiking apparel.
3600 Highway 1 (17 miles north of Santa Cruz). Meet at the yellow gate across from Waddell Beach.
