Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary's Water Quality Protection Program Committee will hold the Monterey Bay Conference on Water Quality to raise awareness and show individuals and businesses how they can get involved to limit their environmental impact.
Paul Michel, the sanctuary's superintendent, and Karina Cervantez, City of Watsonville Mayor, will kick off the event with a welcome and overview of what the conference will cover. It will begin with water quality trends and results from tests that measure the water's effect on marine mammals. At 3:50 a keynote speech by Catherine Kuhlman, Ocean Protection Council's Executive Director and Deputy Secretary for Oceans and Coastal Matters, will speak about possible solutions to improve water quality in Monterey Bay. The event will wrap up with a resource fair that will showcase local programs that promote water quality protection on the Central Coast. See the full agenda here.
