Weed Pulling in Morgan Sandhills Preserve

Date:

Sun, 10/26/2014 - 09:00

This is not your usual invitation to come pull broom out by its pernicious, nasty little roots. No; this is an invitation to enter hallowed ground visited by few humans: the Morgan Sandhills Preserve. This preserve near Scotts Valley, purchased and maintained by the Land Trust of Santa Cruz County, is home to some of the rarest habitat you can imagine—the sandhills parkland, only about 240 acres of which exist anywhere on earth. And this is your chance to cruise in the front door whistling, a weed wrench (we like the Puller Bear) casually cocked over your shoulder, and greedily soak up as much information as you can about this special habitat. Very 007, if you ask us. You are a part of an important struggle, you know.

Morgan Sandhills Preserve, end of Geyer Road in Scotts Valley. 9am-noon. Bring gloves and a bottle for water; Land Trust will furnish snacks and a jug of water. RSVP on Eventbrite.

Directions: From Hwy 17, take the Mt. Hermon Exit. Go west through town on Mt. Hermon Rd. Just as you leave town, turn right (north) on Lockhart Gulch Rd. Veer to the left at the Y. Take first left on Geyer Rd. The preserve entrance is at the end of the road.
