Wild Mushrooms and Functional Fungi

Date:

Fri, 12/04/2015 - 17:00

MAH pays tribute to mycological might with an exhibit on all the marvelous powers of mushrooms, from catalysts of enlightenment to living building materials. Mushrooms are used to clothe people, to clean up environmental messes and to enhance human health. And in the hands of folks like "I grew a chair" myco-matter pioneer Phil Ross, their potential as malleable, organic and naturally fire-retardant materials to shelter humans becomes a truly trippy thing. Explore the possibilities today and tonight at the exhibit opening at MAH. Runs through March 20.

Friday's schedule:
11am-9pm Explore fungi innovations in Wild Mushrooms & Functional Fungi and local heights of wearable art in Uncommon Threads.
5pm Make mushrooms and turn the classroom into a forest of fanciful fungi growth.
5:30pm Dive deeper into Wild Mushrooms & Functional Fungi with an artist talk about “Mushrooms as Material” from Phil Ross

MAH, 705 Front St, Santa Cruz. Open 11am-9pm. Free in honor of First Friday.
