Save Our Shores Earth Day Cleanups

Date:

Sat, 04/20/2013 - 09:00

Save Our Shoes leaps into the Earth Day fray with three beach and waterway cleanups on Monterey Bay. At 9am the crew heads to the San Lorenzo River at the Water Street bridge to spiff up the riverbank before the Earth Day Santa Cruz festivities begin. From 10am to noon, SOS groups will also gather at Main Beach/Cowells Beach in Santa Cruz and at Del Monte Beach/Municipal Wharf in Monterey to clean up those beaches.

We're told that last year, 512 SOS volunteers picked up 632 pounds of trash at the Earth Day cleanups, a fact that has us torn between "Eew!" and "Wow!" Save Our Shores provides gloves, bags and the little checklists that help them keep track of what kind of litter is winding up on our shores and in our rivers. If you're interested in helping out, meet at 9am at San Lorenzo Park or at 10am at Cowells Beach (or Del Monte Beach if you're in Monterey).
