Science Sunday — Shark Conservation

Date:

Sun, 08/17/2014 - 13:00

To wrap up Science Shark Week at the Seymour Center, this Science Sunday's talk will focus on none other than sharks! A. Peter Klimley, also known as Dr. Hammerhead due to his work with hammerheads, has been studying all species of sharks for decades. If there's one thing he's learned, it's that sharks deserve a better rep than what Jaws gives them. This talk will cover the true, natural behavior of sharks, along with reasons why we should (and how we can!) conserve these misunderstood marine creatures. Klimley will stick around after the talk for a signing of his two books — The Secret Life of Sharks: A Leading Marine Biologist Reveals the Mysteries of Shark Behavior and The Biology of Sharks and Rays — which will be sold in the Ocean Discovery shop.

Seymour Center. 1 pm. Free with the price of admission; admission is free for Seymour Center members and UC Santa Cruz undergraduates. Bring extra money if you'd like to purchase a book.
