As autumn rolls in, steelhead trout respond to the call of nature. These unique fish, related to salmon, swim from the ocean upstream into the heart of Santa Cruz County and beyond. Join the Coastal Watershed Council (CWC) and fisheries biologist Don Alley to witness their journey. At this water tour (children welcome!) the lucky participants will learn about the ecology of the fish species of Soquel Creek, see live fish, and learn how to get involved. An upstream boat will use a seine (a specialized type of fishing net) to capture fish. Over the course of the day, 300 steelhead trout will be caught and checked for tags so that scientists can know how many steelhead are swimming in Soquel Creek. An RSVP is required, and you can save your spot by calling (831) 464-9200 or via email at tours@coastal-watershed.org.
